![]() ![]() We learned so much about mushing and it was special to be able to cuddle Alaskan Husky puppies. We also must give a "shout out" to Peter and Theresa Bartlett for their excellent educational presentation related to the history of dogsledding, care for Alaskan Huskies and the demanding training necessary for both mushers and dogs for the annual Iditarod sled race. Staff took excellent care of everyone in our group! Other tour staff who detailed the history of goldpanning were equally knowledgeable and entertaining. We greatly enjoyed our on-shore excursion to Skagway led by guide, Slinky Jenkins, dressed in period attire, and who was not only knowledgeable about the history of Skagway, Dredgetown and gold panning, but was clever, entertaining, thoughtful, & a considerate tour guide. Learned a lot of history and the Klondike gold rush era. And finally we toured an old gold minimg operation that was moved to the site in the late 90"s. That was really fun! Next we had a delicious buffet lunch. Our group got between $13-25.00 each from the gold we panned. Next we went to the gold panning section & learned how to pan. Everyone loved this! All in all a very positive experience!. Next we met the puppies and could hold them. I wish they had gone around the track twice so we could of had a better sense of them in action. Then on to see the sled dogs and finally to see them actually pull a sled. The first visit was to the Gold Rush Dog Tours where Theresa & Peter gave an excellent introduction to the sled dogs & the history of the Iditarod Race. ![]() Full of stories of old time Alaska, history notes, jokes, and very entertaining. The excursion from the cruise ship started out with a comfortable bus ride with our tour guide, Karot Top! He was a great guide staying with us our entire 5 hour tour.
